Aromatherapy in the Garden

"The greatest gift of the Garden is the restoration of the five senses"

Yes, I'm in therapy, aromatherapy.
I enjoy the smells of outside. Plants fragrant oils are mind altering, soothing and healing.
These aromas, fragrances or odors, influence the brain/mind, body and soul
therapeutically in many ways, from relaxation to stimulation.

Rubbing the rosemary or lavender plants to release their fragrant oils on your dirty garden hands
begins the healing process to keep those garden hands in good working order.

Mint and lemon verbena leaves picked, add their beneficial scent into the tea.

Pieces of herbs added to hand milled soaps brings the smells of outside into the shower.

Even smelling the dirt tells you if it is healthy and providing the correct stuff needed to grow healthy plants.

Oriental Lilies blooming fill the air with their sweet loud heavy fragrance.
Aromatherapy: another blessing from the Garden.

Ice-tea is more refreshing with aromatic
mint and lemon.

Herb soaps are aromatic

Colors

Colors are bursting out and blooming.

A sudden heat appears, after the rains, and vegetation shoots out of the ground.
The challenge is to keep labor on a pace with the work of nature,
or else be overrun by the excess of her Abundance.

Oscar loves the shade under the flowers.

This means my form of exercise is hoeing, chopping and weeding
the weediest state in the union, in which lies the weediest garden-mine!
But to be out among all the blooms and colors is....... heaven on earth.

Lettuce in your garden.

Lettuce, Greens, Salads are a great way to start off the new fresh vegetable season.
No fuss, just pick and eat and get those fresh nutrients.

Love those greens
What is a salad?

Fresh, uncooked greens. That's it. Well maybe a little salt.
Salad comes from the Latin word, herba salata or "salted green"
The fresher the green, the less other stuff that needs to be added to make a salad.
There are many benefits of fresh greens.
Easy to grow, quick to produce, no fuss, no spraying, just pick and rinse and eat,
many varieties, taste great, good for you with lots of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and
many micro-nutrients that help to prevent disease.

"EAT YOUR LEAFY GREENS"

The best part in making a salad is there are no rules. Just create what you like or have on hand
or what is growing out in the garden.

Lettuce and onions are the first to be picked.

138th KY Derby

the neighbor's horses

Been crazy for horses since I was young.
Horses are beautiful, strong, loyal, athletic, dependable and have helped us, more so than any
other animal, through our  history.
Being on the back of a horse running as fast as they can go is awesome. I used to do this as a kid,
letting my horse run as fast as they could go for miles down the country roads.
Horses love to run, thats what they do best.
So, horse racing is a natural thing. And the KY Derby is a great race.
I used to go to Arlington Park race track, which is now owned by Churchill Downs in Louisville.
My picks for the 138th Derby race are:

Hansen
Dullahan
I'll have another

My Quarter Horse:  Red Label Scotch

Laura's Love

See you'll later in the infield, look for me, I'm the one with the big derby hat drinking the mint julep.
